Massage is an ancient and natural therapy, and it forms the basis of Emma's practice. Massage can be used
to;
- release tension from muscle,
- reduce trauma from competition and injury compensations,
- improve muscle tone,
- improve the drainage of lymphatic fluids,
- improve coat condition,
- help nervous horses accept human touch.
Emma believes that the posture of the horse is key to the soundness and happiness of the horse. Posture is
of vital importance when rehabilitaing a horse from injury, as compensations may have been set up by the horse to enable it
to comfortably support itself. It is these compensations and incorrect posture that can often inhibit the horse from rehabilitating
sucessfully.
Incorrect posture can also result from incorrect riding, poorly fitting tack or incorrect shoeing.
Massage is the beginning of the process of assessing and correcting incorrect posture by finding and then
releasing muscular tension. Wouldn't you love a massage after a hard day at work, or a long car journey to get rid of
all those niggles and aches?
Massage is also a useful tool in keeping competition horses performing at their peak by ensuring they are
supple.
If a horse is on prolonged box rest massage can help relieve boredom, and provide a nice treat, as well as
help prevent incorrect posture.
And a good massage is always a treat, no matter what your workload!
